Care security officer in a mental health care crisis shelter
Security within crisis shelters for youth crisis shelters has been a major problem in the Netherlands for some time now. The care security officer is a welcome addition to the current staff at the institution.
The clients of the institutions where we work also notice that there is a kind of 'predominance' of supervision. At night, for example, some clients find it difficult to fall asleep and walk around the ward at night or start smoking. The care security officer quickly notices this and has a chat and asks how things are going and, if necessary, gives some coaching. All this is already de-escalating and the youngster knows what the limits are. Camera surveillance is adequately monitored and in the event of escalations, our employee acts immediately and assists the treating healthcare employee with restraining, administering medication and possibly, in extreme cases, guidance to the isolation.
Broadly speaking, the care security officer was created to increase the safety of both patients and employees in care and, more specifically, mental health care. For example, we can intervene in the event of aggression, but also help with more general chores if there are insufficient hands or offer a listening ear.
Our healthcare security officers have extensive experience in mental healthcare. Most all have a military or police history and have multiple security certificates. In mental health care in particular, people always do more often relying on healthcare security officers.
Delivering a care security officer is one of Strongwood's services. Something we have been doing for years for various hospitals, GGZ institutions and levvel.
Our approach is not unique in its kind. In fact, our people operate according to the rules and wishes of the institutions where they work. The right selection of our people and collaborations with our partners make our people unique and different from regular security† For example, our people work inconspicuously (not in uniform) within your institutions so that it does not provoke aggression.
